My hat goes off to Global Grind, they are using their star power to promote awareness and consciousness about issues that are relevant in our community, now that is the power of Hip-Hop. Derrion Albert's death is not even a week old and yet the momentum of the outrage on Monday is dying today. Why is that?
What we have to understand is that segregation didn't end in a day. Black people gaining the right to vote did not happen in a month's time. Poll taxes and the evil that was Jim Crow did not end in a the span of one year or ten years even. I understand that we live in this 'have it your way world' but the truth is some things still need to be fought for, with consistency.
The souls of black folk still need to be fought for and part of that fight is putting an end to youth violence. We can not end youth violence tomorrow, but that does not mean that our voices and actions don't need to be head today, tomorrow and the next day. We need to gather up support for the change we seek. We need you, we need your voice, your ideas, your time and your commitment.
How many more people have to die before we wake up and say 'enough is enough'. Is it you, do you have to die, do I; before we band together and fight the injustices that are claiming our people on the streets of our neighborhoods. It starts with me, it starts with you, Make It Happen.
