RVs are welcome and expected at the 60th 49er Encampment held at the Furnace Creek Ranch area on Nov. 4-7, 2009. Registration is now in progress and RVers are flocking into the Sunset and Furnace Creek campgrounds and boondocking areas prior to the Encampment. Sunset campground has been redesigned and remodeled to accept larger RVs. A large dry camping area, at $6.00/night, supplements the 250 campsites. Furnace Creek campground, near the Visitor Center, is expected to be filled with Encampment attendees. Outside the park entrance on Rte 190 there were several boondockers in residence when I drove by. http://deathvalley49ers.org ·
Encampment activities include various types of musical entertainment, social gatherings, meals and meetings in addition to the usual Park events. The nominal charge of $35.00 for programs and badges provides scholarship funds for area college students.
Escapees, FMCA, WINS and a host of other clubs and memberships are represented at the Encampment. Many RVers come early and stay late for the Encampment.
As a bonus,on this Halloween weekend there is a Murder Mystery night, Nov. 3, 2009, held at Scotty's Castle in the north end of the Park. The ghosts and goblins of the 49er gold seekers will be floating around the Death Valley campfires this Halloween.
