CNN has broadcast a breaking news announcement that Alaska Governor Sarah Palin has resigned her post as governor of the state. Rick Sanchez announced at 3 PM ET that CNN has confirmed that Palin will step down as governor of Alaska within the month.

The Palin announcement is bound to set off media speculation about her motivation, At this point, however, the reasons for Palin's resignation are merely conjecture.

Sarah Palin came to national attention when she was chosen as the Republican Vice Presidential candidate, running with John McCain in his run for President against Democrat  Barack Obama.

Governor Sarah Palin made a press statement from Wasilla, Alaska. She did not take questions from the press. Palin stated that she was doing what was best for the State of Alaska.
 

Sarah Palin is transferring power to Lieutenant Governor Sean Parnell. Palin stated that the transition will be very smooth, after the Governor's Picnic at the end of the month.
 

Sarah Palin stated that the decision has been in the works for a while and has been endorsed by her children. Palin stated she wants to fight for a positive future from outside the governor's office.

We are not retreating, we are advancing in another direction.
 

After Sarah Palin stepped down from the podium, Lt. Governor Sean Parnell made a statement that he will continue the course set by Governor Palin.
