HLN News with Jane Velez Mitchell reported today that there will be a motorcade to bring the body of Michael Jackson to Neverland Ranch in Los Olivos, California; on Friday. There is reportedly a 30 car motorcade planned to bring the King of Pop t
o lie in state at the ranch that he used to love.
Mitchell questioned whether Jackson would have appreciated lying in state at Neverland. After his molestation trial was over, Jackson stated that he would never return to Neverland, as the experiences with the arrest and subsequent trial were bitter memories.
Neverland is now owned by a private equity company. The part owners of Neverland Ranch have sent a letter to the residents of Santa Barbara, warned of the impending madness that would surely ensue is a public viewing of Jackson's body occurs later this week. The letter, sent by a rep for Colony Capital, LLC, called Neverland Ranch a temporary sanctuary for fans of Michael Jackson who “will come, with or without permission or an invitation.”
The letter stated that even though Santa Barbara's last interaction with Michael Jackson was not positive, the pop star was tried and found innocent of charges and the citizens of Santa Barbara should be sensitive to the Jackson family and fans who are sure to crowd into the area.
Neverland Ranch was at one time the home and playground of Michael Jackson. It as named for Neverland in the Peter Pan story, a place for kids to never grow up. He kept carnival rides and animals on the property, The rides and animals have been taken from the property, and Neverland is not really Neverland any more.
