Boardwalk Empire is a new HBO series premiering in 2010. The series is set in 1920's, at the dawn of the Prohibition era, which turned out to be a boom time for gangsters. Boardwalk Empire stars Steve Buscemi (The Sopranos), Michael Pitt, Kelly Macdonald, Michael Shannon, Michael Stuhlbarg, Michael Kenneth Williams, Dabney Coleman and Gretchen Mol.

Set in 1920 at the dawn of Prohibition, Boardwalk Empire chronicles the life and times of Nucky Thompson, the undisputed leader of Atlantic City. Nucky Thompson, portrayed by Steve Buscemi, is described, in the HBO press release, as equal parts politician and gangster.

Boardwalk Empire was created by Terence Winter (“The Sopranos”) who also serves as executive producer along with Martin Scorsese (who directed the pilot episode), Stephen Levinson, Mark Wahlberg and Tim Van Patten.

BOARDWALK EMPIRE is currently shooting in New York City and will debut on HBO in 2010.
