Blustery conditions were the norm across not only the Sacramento area, but most of the state today as a cold, dry Pacific storm pushed ashore to our north. Northerly winds picked up this morning after a cold front blasted through the Valley overnight, reaching a peak speed of around 30 mph in Sacramento. The peak wind gust at Sacramento International Airport was 41 mph, which occurred just before 5 p.m. These winds should relax a bit overnight tonight, especially in northern Valley locations.
Wednesday will dawn chilly and breezy across the region as high pressure starts to build into the state. Morning temperatures should be in the low 40s in most areas, except for the southern Sacramento Valley where stronger winds will keep temperatures up a few degrees. The wind will still be with us on Wednesday, but will not be as strong as today.
The forecast for Thursday and Friday is a nice one. Highs on both days will be in the low 70s with lighter winds than preceding days. Fantastic trick-or-treat weather is in store for Halloween night, as skies remain clear with no rain in sight. Keep the jackets handy however, as lows will bottom out in the upper 40s. Tomorrow's column will have more detail on the forecast for Halloween night.
