Entering a field that includes two members of the King County Council, former KIRO 7 news anchor, Susan Hutchison announced today that she will be running to replace Ron Sims as the next King County Executive. Sims has been tapped to be Undersecretary of HUD in the Obama Administration. Hutchison, currently serving as Executive Director of the Charles Simonyi Fund for Arts and Sciences released a statement today saying:
"I work with people from every corner of our region, and it has become clear that there is a deep frustration with county government. I know how to solve problems and fix things, and King County needs fixing."
Hutchison was appointed by Sims to serve on the King County Elections Task Force in 2005 where she advocated for making all county-wide elected positions non-partisan; a position which has since been approved by the voters. Current King County Council members, Dow Constantine and Larry Phillips have previously announced their intentions to seek the Executive position.
