 My fellow Seattle examiner, Dave Workman, has a new piece out on a recent Raumussen poll that he claims proves folks are afraid Obama is coming for their guns.

"A new Rasmussen poll released earlier this week reveals that 57 percent of Americans believe gun sales have skyrocketed in this country over the past several months because of fears that the government – now under control of the Obama administration and a Democrat Congress – will move to restrict gun rights."

According to the poll released on Tuesday, June 30th:

"...A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that just 23% say gun sales have risen because of a fear of increased crime. Twenty-one percent (21%) are not sure."

Dave and the other "gun rights" (who knew guns had rights?) examiners seem to spend quite a bit of bandwidth writing about this "fear." What is interesting about this to me is that, while there are some in this country like myself who would like to see some tighter controls on the type of weapons and ammunition sold in this country, very few of us have any real power in terms of allies in the congress and we certainly lack any friends in the Executive branch. The simple fact is, Democrats long ago dropped this issue from serious national consideration; especially at the presidential level. To my chagrin, even my own modern day political hero, Howard Dean, had a 100% rating from the NRA as governor of Vermont.

So here is my question? If so many gun owners in the country are suffering from some irrational fear of something that has neither been proposed or acted upon, wouldn't that be considered some form of paranoia or at least some type of delusional thinking? And, if that is the case, should these folks continue to be allowed to carry loaded weapons in public?
