Philadelphia Independence logo unveiled
In perfect honor of Indpendence Day and the 4th of July, the Philadelphia Independence of Women's Professional Soccer unveiled its logo on Saturday.
The crest is the shape of a keystone to signify Pennsylvania's designation as the "Keystone State." The colors are also representative of the flag of the city of Philadelphia.
You can read the full press release here.
The real question is, what do you folks think of this logo. I absolutely love everything that Philadelphia has done from a business standpoint - creating a pyramid system, moving into a brand new stadium, grassroots marketing - but I am not sure how I like this logo.
For starters, it looks too much like clip art. It has a very cartoon-like feature to it and the "Philadelphia" is barely even visible. The "Independence" feature is where the eye is drawn.
Also, there is nothing that screams 'soccer' about it either. The "We the People" slogan makes me think that this crest is more of a logo for some type of city event rather than the team. Again, Philly is doing everything right, but I have to be honest on this one.
New Site Coming Soon: All of you loyal fans may have noticed that posts have been few and far between lately, and I was unable to post my weekly WPS Power Rankings this week. First, I apologize. I know there are some dedicated followers of this page for women's soccer and Sky Blue FC news and I thank you for that.
However, it is with good cause that you are not seeing as much on this page. I am in the final stages (days, hopefully) of developing and launching my own website dedicated to women's soccer news. I am very excited to unveil it, but it has taken up practically all of my time lately, so be patient. Here is a quick preview....
The domain is equalizersoccer.com, and the site will be called The Equalizer: Leveling the Playing Field in Soccer Communications. The idea behind that is that women's soccer news is given precedent over men's soccer news on The Equalizer. Too often, great stories go untold in women's soccer and it is my goal to make sure that they get some necessary coverage. Stay tuned for details next week! Happy 4th of July!
