2009 Women's Professional Soccer champion Sky Blue FC announced the signing of Dutch international defender Daphne Koster.  Koster is the captain of Holland, and becomes the first Dutch player in WPS.

"Daphne Koster is internationally experienced, and she will be a great addition to our defensive line," Sky Blue FC head coach Pauliina Miettinen commented. "She played extremely well at the European Championships and was one of the backbones of the Netherlands defense, overall one of the best defenders in the tournament. Daphne is very versatile player with an ability to read the game well, and she is also a leader on and off the field."

Koster spent the past two seasons with AZ Alkmaar in the Dutch Hoffdklasse (Premier) League.  She has been capped 91 times for Holland and is still only 28-years-old.

She will be expected to step in for captain Christie Rampone, who is expected to be out until at least late April with her pregnancy.  Koster should successfully fill the same role that Jen Buzkowski did last year for Sky Blue FC, stepping in for Rampone or Asante at center back when they were away on national team duty.

Buczkowski is now with the Philadelphia Independence, but as good as she was for the New Jersey side last year, she may not be missed much with this signing.

Also, some big news out of Boston:  As first reported on The Equalizer, U.S. international Leslie Osborne has agreed to terms with the Boston Breakers.

That news came just two days after the announcement that Carli Lloyd had signed with Sky Blue FC, meaning Aly Wagner and Cristiane are two of the only major free agents left out on the market.
