It has been a long, rough season for the New York Red Bulls, and it did not get any easier Wednesday night as Real Salt Lake kept its playoff hopes alive with a 2-0 win over New York.

RSL was powered by two late goals to pick up its first-ever win against New York.

Andy Williams found net in the 80th minute and Roger Espindola added a beautiful insurance goal in the 90th minute to keep playoff hopes alive for the boys from Utah.

The win keeps Real's (10-11-7, 37 pts.) playoff hopes alive, but if the playoffs started today, RSL would be on the outside, looking in.

New York, meanwhile, has a dismal 18 pts. - 11 less than any other team in the league.

For the Red Bulls, all eyes have been on next season for a long time now.  They got a glimpse of what their new home, Red Bull Arena, will be like in last night's game.  Rio Tinto Stadium packed an impressive Wednesday crowd of 16,247 into the beautiful confines, something the Red Bulls will hope to replicate next season.

Sky Blue FC Updates

Sky Blue FC unveiled its assistant coaching staff Wednesday, which includes Mike Lyons.  Lyons served as assistant coach alongside player/coach Christie Rampone at the end of the season for the 2009 WPS Champions.

The staff will assist Head Coach Pauliina Miettinen, who officially took charge just two weeks ago.

As far as free agency goes, Sky Blue FC is working on bringing in help in defense because of Rampone's pregnancy, according to General Manager Gerry Marrone.

"There's things happening," he said.  "I've got an offer out to an international defender right now because obviously Christie (Rampone) is not going to be here for the first two months of the season so we need to fill a major hole in the central defense."

Don't expect to see Collette McCallum or Kelly Parker back, either.  Their options were waved to clear space for international players that Sky Blue is exploring.

McCallum is currently in her home country of Australia playing for Perth Glory in the Westfield W-League (not that W-League).  Julianne Sitch, a name familiar to Sky Blue fans, is also Down Under playing with Melbourne Victory FC.
