Every year about this time a migration of sorts begins and signals the change of Earth in relation to the Sun. In many parts of the country this migration entails the winterization of RV’s as they are put away for yet another winter. The sunset of another great RV season is happening for many of us.

Those of us who cannot move about in our RV’s for 12 months a year head down the same path each year.

We blow out our water lines and fill them with RV antifreeze being careful to NOT USE automotive antifreeze. We take out our batteries to store in the basement with an intelligent charger hooked to them so that we are ready to camp at the first sign of spring weather. This writer uses the battery minder  and has had great success with it during the winter as well as in camping season. We insure that we store our rigs on 2x4 blocks, lego leveling blocks or anything to keep the tires off the ground and out of the elements.

For some of us the change in season means just moving to another part of the country so we can continue this lifestyle we love so much. Ahhh, to be able to fly-fish 12 months of the year!

The annual migration of RVers to Quartzsite has shown signs of beginning. The latest info on this year’s activities as well as updates on items such as the early September floods may be found here . It will be interesting to see how many RVers show up at Quartzsite this year as many had predicted its demise after the lack luster showing last season. The southern part of our country is now beginning to see the “crunch” of RV’s that seek more a temperate climate and begin to fill up the RV parks along our southern coast and desert southwest.

The RVing forums will now begin to get active as restless RVers begin to share their experiences via the internet. Another rite of passage is the sharing and performing of “mods”. Mods are modifications or those wonderful little projects that make our rigs uniquely ours. Many a late season weekend has been spent on the internet forums getting great ideas and then rushing to the local hardware supply store to buy the goodies to begin the project. It is as common as college football is in the fall.

Our industry has been through a lot the past couple of seasons, but it would appear that we are headed in the right direction. The economy gave us many headaches this year but also introduced many newbie’s to the great adventure of RVing. We will now shift our writing to give you information on what to do to make your RVing more enjoyable and places to consider for next season. If you are a full timer and you wish to help the rest of us, by giving us glimpse into your adventures so that we can get our “fix” of RVing through your travels, it will be appreciated. So let’s all remember those great trips we had in 09 and look for the signs of spring in 10 when we see the flowers reappear.

 Happy Camping
