Speaking of Comet Lodge Cemetery (scroll to the last paragraph), The Daily of the University of Washington (to give the paper its full title) ran an excellent article yesterday entitled "The Ghosts of Comet Lodge Cemetery." Written by managing editor Arla Shephard with some nice photography by photo editor John McLellan, it's a good historical overview of this abandoned IOOF cemetery which has slowly been encroached upon through the decades. This part of Beacon Hill was considered part of Georgetown until I-5 was constructed. Writes Shephard:
Comet Lodge Cemetery in Beacon Hill is alive with the ghosts of pioneers past, making it the perfect spooky, out-of-the-way locale that’s great for a peek or a stroll this Halloween weekend.
I myself am more interested in old cemeteries for their historic — not their paranormal — aspects, and think there are probably better times to visit than on what looks to be a rather rainy Halloween weekend, but if you are in the market for something like this, you can hardly do better within the city limits.
I'm surprised Historylink hasn't covered the cemetery — ordinarily I'd point you there first for further reading — and neither has Wikipedia. Makes me think I should start a stub, as I did for the GAR Cemetery on Capitol Hill four years ago. There really isn't much out there, but what there is is pretty useful:
