The National Center for Health Statistics recently held a research conference on its National Survey of Family Growth to report their findings. The survey found that the "supply and demand" of domestic and foster care adoptions is out of whack.

The study, released last August, was based on more than 12,000 interviews and found that nearly 600,000 women are seeking to adopt children in the US. With domestic adoptions down (infant relinquishment down) and international adoption down, where should these women turn? The logical choice is Foster Adopt. However, many are being turned away or are not being matched.

According to Jeff Katz, founder of the Listening to Parents Project, prospective adoptive parents are not treated with compassion and are not necessarily welcomed when inquiring about foster adoptions.
