The creative world is producing new and exciting things almost every day and it may be hard to keep tabs on your favorite visual artists and events locally and abroad so here are some of my favorite sites to keep current with what's going on.

Cartel is a collaborative effort of artists who create in the Midwest. Chicago is no stranger to the art world boasting a heavy dose of institutions, galleries, and home to about a billion artists and counting. We created Cartel to separate ourselves from the bevy of talent this city has to offer. We are no better or worse than any other working artists out here and believe that we have a unique perspective on things with all of our different styles.

We are Cartel will is home to 12 different artists working and creating in Chicago; sharing their experiences with you. We hope to entertain and inform you on just a small piece of what this great city has to offer artistically. The site will make you smile, frown, cry, and maybe make you wet yourself a little.

The above excerpt is the mission statement for this collective who all work and create in Chicago.  They update the site weekly with shows, art for sale and coverage of shows they have attended or participated in.

The Upset collective is made up of some of Chicago's most prolific street artists, photographers, and all around jokesters.  They offer a fresh perspective of underground art and culture reporting on art shows, events and random video postings of stuff you may have never heard of.  They also offer and online version of their magazine which is now a collectible item as all hard copies of thier debut zine is now out of print.

For those of you art fans who crave art out of the norm Juxtapoz has been the  bible for all low brow, alternative, street and pop artists for years.  This publication has been showcasing the best up and coming artists from all over the world including Chicago.  The content is a lot more fast paced  and frenzied as they get thousands of submissions from all over the globe.  Juxtapoz has been the main source for all alternative artists who crave art outside the box.

Despite its um, suggestive name - Fecal Face has been another great source of art happenings for established and not so established artists.  They focus on a lot on the San Francisco and California art scene but, are not always limited to that region as they have an East Cost reporter and special guest bloggers who report from their own respective towns and scenes.

I hope this gives you readers out there with a curious hunger for new and exciting art a new direction to research old and new favorites!
