Its kind of hard to tell that it's fall outside with temperatures soaring over the 70 degrees we are accustomed to when we think of late September. Despite the summer-like weather, Pilsen will be having its annual art walk this weekend. Over 30 galleries will open their doors and amazing gardens to patrons who may be in the market for anything creative. We are talking photographers, painters, furniture makers, prints, pottery - like I said, everything. You will also be pleasantly surprised at how many well groomed gardens and greenhouses exist in this southside art haven. This event will be happening all weekend long starting tomorrow and is also a great family activity. You can find out everything you need to know here.
Here are a few tips for any rookies ready to "art" it up.
-Wear comfortable shoes, as you will be walking a lot and the sidewalks are not as level or smooth as they would be in, say, Schaumburg.
- Bring several options for payments if you are interested in purchasing anything. A lot of galleries will be set up for credit card purchases however a lot of the gallieries opening their doors are studio artists, which means cash or checks will be the most viable option.
-Trust your instinct if you are interested in buying a piece. There is going to be a lot to look at and shopping around for art is a first-come first-serve basis. You will see a lot of things that you will not like, so if you see that one piece that you just have to have, get it because there will be 15 others who will be thinking the same thing.
-Ask questions. This will be the one time that most of the artists will be eager and laid back to talk to the public, hence their participation. Don't be afraid to ask the artists anything about their inspirations or anything of that nature. Be curious because you want to make sure you get something out of this!
-Be adventurous and check out anything and everything. You can't be shy at things like this, so go straight in to the back, grab a plastic cup of wine, get loose, and just have a good time!
