Clara is only two years old and she's super friendly. Look at her little face. She needs a home. You need something to break up the monotony of solitary Lean Cuisine dinners and "Wheel of Fortune" every night. See how easy this is? Photo: Seattle Humane Society

If you've been suppressing your desire to have a cat in order to avoid "crazy cat lady" branding, this month it's time to give in. June is Adopt-a-Cat Month and several shelters around town are making it temptingly easy for you to shed your sterile no-pets persona and fulfill your true destiny as a kitten cuddler. Here’s a roundup of what some local shelters are doing to promote cat adoption this month.

Seattle Humane Society: This month adoption fees are waived on all cats age one-year and older with the donation of cat food to the Pet Food Bank. The shelter is teeming with affectionate friends in need of forever homes! Your donation will go to help the cats of poor elderly people struggling to feed to their companions.

Seattle Animal Shelter: There are always loads of friendly cats to meet at Seattle Animal Shelter. Spy on some now with the kitty cam!
The shelter’s next Fabulous Felines adoption event is July 18 at the Phinney Ridge Community Center, 6532 Phinney Ave. N., Seattle, WA 98103, (206) 386-7387. The event runs from 12 PM to 3 PM. The event is free and you’ll meet the many fabulous cats available for adoption. These cats have been in foster care, waiting for their forever homes.

Purrfect Pals: On June 20th, Purrfect Pals will be at Ash Way Pet Supply in Lynnwood 16108 Ash Way # 104 Lynnwood, WA 98087, (425) 741-2977 with adoptable cats and kittens from 11 AM to 5 PM Stop by and say ‘hi’ and meet some adorable cats and kittens. Also, PJ’s Paws and Claws, 3320 W. McGraw Street #3 Seattle, WA 98199, (206) 281-WOOF (9663) in Seattle’s Magnolia neighborhood is hosting an adoption event for Purrfect Pals on Saturday, June 27th from 11 AM to 4 PM. Can’t make it to these events? Browse all the cats in Purrfect Pals’ network from your own lonely home computer. (You could have a pile of fluff purring in your lap while you browse. Just sayin’.)

PAWS: To celebrate adopt a cat month, PAWS is offering a coupon on their Web site for $10 off the adoption fee of an adult cat one year and older at PAWS in Lynnwood or PAWS Cat City in Seattle's Greenwood neighborhood during the month of June. By adopting a cat from PAWS, you can help your city become more cat-friendly and join the thousands of Seattle cat friends already in the know. While you’re on their site, read fascinating cat facts and sign up to follow PAWS on Twitter. Download the special coupon and learn more, even meet Stacks!

Pasados Safe Haven: Come on out for the Kitty City Adoption & Dog Towne Adoption event Saturday June 27th from 12 PM to 3 PM at Pet Energy Central, 15407 Westminster Way 5A-1, Shoreline, WA 98133. (206) 838-5356.

Cats are too polite to toot their own horns, so you probably didn’t know that they beat dogs as the number one pet in the U.S. There are 81 million owned cats in the United States. That means they outnumber dogs as pets by 10 million. This fact comes from the Catalyst Council. See what else you don’t know about America’s top pet!

Since we're on the topic of feline superiority, did you know that cats are just as trainable as dogs, extremely smart and clean – and they have been proven to lower your blood pressure and fight depression? Kind of makes you wonder what you’ve been waiting for ...oh right, your silly soul-crushing vanity. Well, it doesn’t say anywhere that you have to start wearing oversized bedazzled cat sweatshirts and store partially used hankies in the sleeves just because you own a cat or two. Get over yourself and help a kitty help you!
