Twitter is sweeping the theatre scene

Twitter is growing every day, as more and more people access this social networking giant and start sending their tweets all over the world wide web. For those of you that aren’t familiar with Twitter, it’s sort of like sending an instant message to a bunch of people (called followers) all at the same time. These messages are called “tweets” and everyone is getting in on the act.

The theatre scene on Broadway is paving the way for Twitter to have a following within the theatre community. You can follow just about any actor, show, director or theatre that is on the great white way. What kinds of things are people tweeting about? Well, Neil Patrick Harris recently sent a tweet letting people know he was going to be on Letterman, followed by him quoting the lyrics to the theme song from Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Rock of Ages, the Musical recently sent a tweet thanking everyone that came out and helped to sell out their show. Idina Menzel sent a tweet telling everyone about the birth of her new baby boy. And the Denver Center for the Performing Arts sends out tweets about discounted tickets, new shows, and show reviews. There really is a plethora of information about theatre coming out of Twitter.

How about Twitter in Denver?

Well, unfortunately, Twitter hasn’t taken off quite as much here – yet. But I’m certain it is something that we’ll see take off in Denver just like Myspace and Facebook did too. Here are a couple of Denver folk you can follow on Twitter:
