In memory of Phil Gottlieb
When someone close to you passes away, you mourn with family and friends and everyone gets together to celebrate their life. Well, when someone in the theater community passes away, the entire theatre community comes together to mourn their loss and support each other. The theatre community has lost one of their own, and it is a truly great loss.
Phil Gottlieb was a very active part of the Denver Theatre Community. He most recently was seen on stage in Performance Now’s Fiddler on the Roof and was due to open The Fantasticks in Breckenridge this weekend. He was a proud father of 2 and a devoted husband. He passed away from complications from a heart attack on Sunday night. Phil’s wife Mary is one of the most sought-after music directors in town. His sons, Matt and Chris are both tremendously talented and have bright futures ahead of them. Phil truly was the patriarch of an entire theatre family.
I was lucky enough to count Phil Gottlieb as one of my close friends. All of Phil’s friends and family have been coming together to tell stories of Phil and to take a moment to celebrate his life. That is the special close bond that brings us theatre people together. The loss of Phil Gottlieb will be felt throughout the community and for a long time to come. If you knew Phil, or didn’t know Phil, I encourage you to read
THIS COLUMN written by the Denver Post Theater Critic, John Moore. Take a minute and learn about a man that has impacted the entire community.
Also, please use the comments in this space to share your own memory of Phil Gottlieb. He has touched so many of us, and I know that I’ll be feeling this loss for a long time to come.
