Presenting: Haley Johnson
Photos by C. Smith

Haley Johnson is a very well known actress in town. She has appeared on stages all over the state and her work is consitently strong. She is an award winning actress, a huge talent, and a delightful person to know. If you haven't seen her on stage, I recommend that you get out and see her current show - A Streetcar Named Desire. She is earning rave reviews for this role, and personally I can't wait to see it! And now, Acts and Answered with Haley Johnson.

Q. What is your favorite theatre to visit as a patron and why?
A.
I enjoy Miner's Alley because of the quality of shows and the down-to-earth staff...and I love seeing shows at the Vintage Theatre because it's one of the most intimate theatres in Denver with high quality productions and a fun & funky venue.

Q. What type of shows do you enjoy watching?
A.
Mostly dramas as I like being sucked into someone else's turmoil.  I guess I like torturing myself...  I also love a well-done Shakespearean or turn-of-the-century piece.

Q. What makes a "good" show?
A.
Besides the obvious (strong writing, performers, directors, etc), I really feel that 100% heart and energy goes a long way to making a fantastic show.  If the cast looks like they're having fun (or are sorrowful to the max!) then the audience will believe it and take the journey.

Q. What makes a "bad" show?
A.
I think it's apparent when the actors, director, designers and crew aren't giving their all to a production.  When there's no heart, there's no fun to be had an as audience member.

Q. How can we get more people excited about live, local theatre?
A.
Making more of an effort to talk up a show or theatre venue to a stranger.  As theatre artists, most of our connections and friends are our fellow artists.  We are our own audience.  We need to stretch ourselves and reach out of the box when it comes to pulling in audiences.

Q. What is your favorite play or musical?
A.
Lee Blessing's Two Rooms is my favorite play and Cabaret is my all-time favorite musical...I'd kill to play the Emcee!

Q. What does the average theatre patron not know about live theatre?

Haley in A Streetcar Named Desire

A.
Generally, they don't realize the amount of time put into each production but every patron I've ever spoken with never realizes
that actors are often unpaid.

Q. What have been your favorite roles?
A.
Susy Hendrix in Wait Until Dark, Barbara Smith in Run For Your Wife and Karen in Dinner With Friends

Q. Where can we see you next?
A.
I'm currently starring as Blanche DuBois in Vintage's A Streetcar Named Desire.  We're very proud of this show so come support live theatre!

Q. What's one movie can you recite line for line?
A.
Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgandy (I know that flick backwards and forwards!)
