Joan Rivers wins this season's Celebrity Apprentice (AP Photo)
Last night, Joan Rivers was named the new Celebrity Apprentice by Donald Trump defeating poker champion, Annie Duke. But even though Joan Rivers was named the winner in last night's Celebrity Apprentice finale, Rivers may have alienated many viewers with her harsh words for her opponent.
Throughout the season, whenever something didn't go her way, instead of addressing her opponent's business tactics, Rivers resorted to insults and name-calling. In the boardroom during Week 6, since she did not like the way country singer Clint Black led the team as project manager, Joan told Black, in effect, she would never buy any of his CDs or come to his concerts. In Week 9, she called Brande Roderick a "stupid blonde." And, no, these comments weren't meant to be jokes.
Maybe some of the insults were done on purpose for dramatic effect, but Rivers definitely took it too far. Since Annie Duke was her biggest competitor, she held nothing back, comparing Annie to Hitler and calling poker players "white trash."
On a positive note, the players that Rivers personally insulted took the high road and refrained from making any personal attacks on Rivers. The exception was the finale when Annie Duke was told that the event planner had quit because of difficulty with working with Joan Rivers, and Annie remarked during the height of the competition that Rivers "must die."
Joan Rivers may have won the Celebrity Apprentice title this season but due to the lack of professionalism she demonstrated, she seems to have lost a lot of credibility with the viewers.
