Before he died, Michael Jackson had plans to "own" Halloween. Jackson wanted to capitalize off his successful Thriller concept and create projects that would make the word Halloween synonymous with the name of Michael Jackson.
Jackson wanted to do a full-length, 3-D feature of Thriller and open a Thriller-themed casino in Las Vegas. Gambling Online magazine reported before Michael's death that "the Thriller casino will replicate sets from the hit song Thriller, from the multi-platinum-award-winning album of the same name, and will feature zombies behind slot machines and 'the living dead' roaming round the casino at night."
Although he didn't live to see it, Michael Jackson became the King of Halloween in a completely different way than he would have imagined. It was reported on Sunday, November 1, that Jackson's music documentary, This Is It, earned $101 million worldwide over Halloween weekend making it the number one "Halloween thriller" in the US and abroad.
Due to the film's early success, the film's distributor, Sony, has decided to extend This Is It's run in theaters past the original two weeks to an extended run through Thanksgiving weekend.
Who knows, maybe Michael Jackson will also become the King of Thanksgiving?
