The Environmental Media Association held its annual awards gala on Sunday, October 25, 2009 at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles. This year the organization celebrated its 20th anniversary and gave special honors to Sir Richard Branson, the National Geographic Society, Centropolis Entertainment and musician Jason Mraz for their dedication to environmental causes.

Many environmentally-friendly celebrities walked the "green" carpet including Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart, Simon Baker from The Mentalist, Amy Smart from Just Friends, Ed Begley Jr. and his wife, and Jason Mraz and his girlfriend.

Host, Cedric “The Entertainer,” delighted the crowd with his comedy. Alanis Morrisette presented an award to Jason Mraz for his committment to "green" touring and using sustainable textiles, notably through the company, Blend Apparel. Mraz treated the crowd to a performance of his mega-hit "I'm Yours."

Norman Lear and his wife, Lyn, created the EMA 20 years ago in an effort to incorporate green themes in movies and TV shows and make productions environmentally friendly. The winners for the 2009 Environmental Media Awards were Disneynature EARTH for Feature film, Food Inc. and The Cove for Documentary, Brothers and Sisters: “It’s Not Easy Being Green” for TV episodic drama, Better Off Ted: “Jabberwocky” for TV episodic comedy, The Lazy Environmentalist: “The Lazy Family/The Lazy Pet Groomer” for Reality Series, Biz Kid$: “The Green Economy” for Children's Live Action, and Wild about Safety--Timon and Pumbaa: “Safety Smart Goes Green” for Children's Animated.

Many young stars attended to show their support for the environment. Lindsey Broad of Till Death Do Us Part suggests to "ride your bike as much as possible and not use your car on the weekends." Vanessa Lengies recommends writing to your government representatives when you are concerned over an environmental issue.

Tamara Henry, aka "Green T", promoted the Green Is Gorgeous eco-contest for Miss America which asks what does "being green" mean to the contestants of the Miss America 2010 Pageant.
