This past Sunday was the annual women's epee spectacular, the Amazon Open, hosted by D.C. Fencers' Club in Silver Spring. Erika Kirpu placed 1st in the strong field of 52 competitors, narrowly defeating top seed Courtney Hurley, 15-14. Tournament organizer Dr. Valerie Asher upset South Texas' Oksana Samorodov on her way to earning 3rd place.

This Sunday, June 14 will be the Tune-Up Open at Baltimore Fencing Center in Columbia. This is a great opportunity for local fencers getting ready for Summer Nationals to get some good competition practice in.

In Harford county Maryland Fencing Club will be at the Riverside Summer Fitness Jam, offering an information booth and answering questions about fencing.
