You’ll find single people everywhere this July Fourth weekend! Go out, enjoy the festivities, and meet new people. You'll be more successful if you keep a couple of things in mind.

Are you wearing an appealing, age-appropriate outfit? Ladies, wear makeup, and forget about bare midriffs and miles of cleavage--unless you are in your twenties. The same goes for the shirtless look for guys. Whatever the activity is, you want to look your best—you never know when you’ll bump into someone special.

If you appear confident and outgoing, you’ll meet people. Studies show that eye contact, a smile and an animated face are more appealing than dazzling beauty. What you say to someone new is not as important as your gently flirtatious demeanor. Just mention something about whatever you are both seeing or hearing right now, and you’ll be on the right track. Most people will appreciate your friendly demeanor. If someone ignores you, don’t take it personally. Just move on to the next person.

Tonight July 2 (and every Thursday night): Check out Nightlife at the California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park. Every Thursday, the Academy is transformed into a lively venue filled with music, provocative science, mingling, and cocktails, for visitors 21 and older. This installment of NightLife features the full-dome premiere of Bella Gaia, an audio-visual “Living Atlas” journey of our world.
Cost: $10 Limited amount of tickets available at the door (it helps to buy tickets online beforehand)
Time: 6:00 – 10:00 PM
Location: California Academy of Sciences, 55 Music Concourse Drive, San Francisco

July 4 and 5: You'll find many opportunities for conversation with single people while they are enjoying the two-day 2009 Fillmore Jazz Festival, which showcases the best jazz talent the Bay has to offer. Enjoy jazz, culture, crafts and cuisine, set against the picturesque backdrop of Fillmore St. Listen to the sounds of up-and-coming jazz fusion, Latin-flavored acts, and seasoned crooners belting out jazz standards. Highlights include Lavay Smith (Sat 2:00PM), Marcus Shelby Orchestra (Sat 4:00PM), hip-hop latin jazz of Bayonics (Sun 2:00PM) and Sila & The Afrofunk Experience (Sun 4:00PM)
Time: 10:00AM to 6:00PM Saturday, July 4 and Sunday, July 5
Locations: Fillmore Street, from Jackson to Eddy, San Francisco

July 4: No matter where you are in the Bay Area, you can find other singles enjoying Fourth of July festivities! There are so many, it's impossible to name them all here. For a listing of 92 events, click here!

Take advantage of this weekend’s activities to get out of the house and meet others. If you are friendly and approachable, you’ll be amazed at how many single people you can meet.
