If you want to be proactive and meet new people, try joining a social community. It’s not as complicated as it sounds. Simply make a commitment to try a new activity for a couple of months. At the very least, you’ll have gained some knowledge and perhaps met a couple of interesting friends. If you have discovered something that you love to do, or found someone who you fall in love with, your life will be forever enriched.
Years ago I tried West Coast Swing dancing for a “couple of months” that turned into decades. The dance is fun, sexy, slinky and versatile. I’ve met countless friends at dances or classes, including my fiance. I know dozens of couples who met on the dance floor. One dancer says that he met more quality women in 18 months than in the prior 18 years. It is a great way to meet people in a friendly and flirtatious way, and get to know them in a low pressure environment.
Come to Mt. Tam Swing in Larkspur on Saturday night, March 21, and learn the hottest dance around! Their goal is to bring new dancers in to the West Coast Swing community with the beginner lesson. If you have ever wanted to learn partner dancing, this is an excellent way to learn the basics. Later in the evening, you'll enjoy dancing and checking out the more experienced dancers.
West Coast Swing evolved out of jitterbug to become a more smooth and sophisticated dance. It allows you to “play” with your partner and, can be danced to a wide range of music. You can dance West Coast Swing to rock, blues, hip hop, Motown, hustle and more. More importantly, it's a social dance, which means that you rotate partners during the lesson. Many dancers frequently change partners during the dance.
The beginning lesson is taught by Kelly Casanova, two-time U.S. Open Swing Dance Champion. I believe that she is one of the Bay Area's best dance teachers. I was born with two left feet, no sense of rhythm, and felt awkward and embarrassed on the dance floor. Her lessons transformed me into a good social dancer, who always has a great time dancing. The lesson goes from 7:30-8:30 PM. followed by open dancing to DJ Fred Loebenstein from 8:45 pm to 11:45.
Cash bar and munchies/hors doerves available.
Cost $15
