There is no shortage of Valentine's goings-on in the Bay Area. Whether you enjoy singles parties, exhibit openings, or poetry readings, there is a place where you could meet a compatible soul this Valentine’s Day.
The quirkiest Valentine's day event is Root Division Gallery's new exhibit, The Museum of Broken Relationships, which opens today. Jilted lovers from around the world have donated mementos of break-ups to this exhibit, together with poignant explanations of the object’s significance. They include an ax used by one woman to break up her ex-girlfriend's furniture, along with the broken furniture. There is a wedding dress, gall stones, a wooden leg from a jilted war veteran who fell in love with a nurse, a Vespa and a pair of inline skates. Other donations are as commonplace as engagement rings, stuffed animals and love letters.
