Love is in the air...

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. It's time to ramp up your dating efforts!

The unseasonably balmy weather means that even more single people will be outside. It's a great day to go to the Ferry Plaza Farmer’s Market, a walk in Chrissy Field,  or any of San Francisco’s fabulous parks.

Start talking to strangers about whatever is at hand. It’s scary at first, but once you’ve done it a few times, you’ll start to enjoy it. Not only that, but you’ll begin to see that there are a lot of friendly people out there.

If talking to strangers seems too uncomfortable, I strongly recommend signing up for BATS Improv for Singles Workshop Series on Saturday afternoons in February. If you hesitate to speak to new people, this class will help you to listen, respond, think on your feet, and take risks. These are invaluable skills to have in the dating world. You’ll learn some tricks to help you navigate the unpredictable dating scene, while meeting new people and having fun! Remember that the love of your life is likely someone you haven’t yet met. Sign up now, as space is limited – classes will be gender-balanced.

When you’re at the Farmer’s Market, ask who has the best oranges, guavas, flowers, or whatever you’d like. If you want to act like a regular, scope out some of the stands to see what is seasonal, since everything is locally – California – grown.

When you’re in a park, comment on people’s dogs, the view, or the great weather. Remember, your words don’t matter as much as your friendliness and effort at making a connection.

Conversation tips: If someone has a wedding ring on their left hand, they are probably not single. Always make eye contact and smile flirtatiously. Single people don’t have a sign on their head saying that they’re available—you have to discover that through conversation.

If you enjoy wine, meet other like minded folk at the Singles Wine Tasting Party in the Sonoma Wine Country. Meet new friends who appreciate fine wine in the beautiful Valley of the Moon. Only $10 at the door includes wine tasting, plus appetizers, served at 1pm, as long as they last. Adults of all ages welcome. Dress to impress!
Sunday, January 18, 1-3pm
Location: Mayo Family Winery, along Hwy 12, 13101 Arnold Drive, Glen Ellen CA 95442.

If you’d rather meet people in the evening, check out the swanky Dance by the Bay, and enjoy a Luau Buffet and DJ dancing at the Golden Gate Yacht Club, 1 Yacht Rd, off Marina Blvd, San Francisco. Adults of all ages, $25/door.
