Learning to partner-dance in a singles friendly venue is a great way to meet people. Because you are lightly touching your leader or follower, it feels flirtatious and fun. No partner is needed, as you rotate frequently during the lesson. Moving to music is a fun, friendly, and easy way to make friends and, maybe, even meet your match. Learning to dance definitely changed my life for the better! It could change yours, too. And, guys; women love men who can dance! Even if you know how to dance, the best way to meet people is to take the lesson before the dance. These are a couple of singles-friendly events being held this weekend.
This Friday September 5, there is a free Big Band dance event being held at San Francisco’s De Young Museum, in Golden Gate Park. From 6-6:30, there will be a dance lesson with Cynthia Glinka. On Friday nights the entire museum is open until 8:45 p.m. The café is open with a special Friday Night dinner menus. No-host cocktail bar is serving drinks. Go early, and visit the special Chihuly exhibit. For more information and directions, go to www.onthedancefloor.cynthiaglinka.com.
This Saturday, the Next Generation Swing Dance Club holds it’s monthly dance at the Allegro Ballroom in Emeryville, from 6:00 – 9:30. There is a beginning West Coast Swing lesson from 7pm -8pm in the junior ballroom with Dani Canziani. The dance starts at 6:00pm, with DJ Beth Bellamy. Seasoned dancers can join The Luck of the Draw contest around 8:30. At 9:30, ballroom dancing begins in the main ballroom, and the swing dance is moved to the expansion ballroom in the back until 11:00. The front room is then ballroom dancing, so if you like you can move back and forth between ballroom and West Coast Swing. Snacks and cold water are available during the dance as well. The $7 member / $12 non-member entrance fee includes the lesson and dance. For more information and directions go to www.nextgenswingdance.com
