Cowboys overcome pesky Bengals

The Cowboys got just what they needed. A win, and a reminder that nothing comes easy in the NFL. Chad Johnson didn’t get his chance to kiss the star. T.O. scored a big touchdown, and the defense showed some gumption during a 31-22 victory.

The final turning point in the game is easy to identify. Shortly after Marvin Lewis’ inspired decision to go for a sneaky onside kick, which the Bengals recovered, running back Chris Perry coughed up the ball to the Cowboys. That play, as Cincinnati drove to take the lead, swung the momentum back toward Dallas. Two plays later, Tony Romo hooked up with Owens for a 57-yard touchdown, and the Cowboys were back in control.

A tip-drill touchdown, Romo-Austin-Crayton, sealed the victory with 1:52 remaining, and reminded everyone that when God watches his team through the open roof of Texas Stadium, he sometimes helps them out..

It must be said though, Romo continues to worry. He’s a heart attack quarterback.

As far as September games go, that Dallas-Philadelphia tilt last night was as good as it gets. The match-up might have seemed over-hyped a few days ago, but the game lived up to every superlative use in advance. My fellow Cowboys Examiner already recapped... Read More

Eagles still second-string rivals

September 13, 6:59 PM
No love lost here. (AP Photo/Matt Slocum, File) ESPN focused on rivalries this week, and the Cowboys made multiple appearances. I made tying up their take on Dallas my task for today. Former Cowboys beat writer Matt Mosley is probably more attuned to... Read More
