If he’s not starring in movies or fighting off tabloid rumors about his relationship with Angelina Jolie, then Brad Pitt is using his privileged position as an uber-celebrity to promote his social activism. In December, Pitt’s “Make It Right Foundation” completed the construction of six new homes in New Orleans’ Lower Ninth Ward. Pitt’s goal is to build 150 homes in total. .jpg)
Last week the ubiquitous actor and social activist met with Newark, New Jersey Mayor Corey Booker to discuss partnering with the city, presumably on housing redevelopment. This is just what our cities need, collaboration between public and private entities. Local businesses in most cities are in financial crisis and can no longer carry the burden alone. Why not call on Hollywood dollars? Pitt’s involvement in these projects comes with marketing and public relations muscle and might. Kudos to the talented and privileged for taking action to help urban America.
