Hope it was fun while it lasted.
Before being sent back down to triple-A Oklahoma, Taylor Teagarden had just enough time to hit a go-ahead home run that proved to be the difference in a game against the Twins. The homer not only kept the Rangers from being swept, but it was also his first Big League hit.
Not a bad way to start a career. Still, it seems like his incredible debut would've warranted a longer stint with the club.
According to the Dallas Morning News, "Teagarden had mixed feelings about it."
The bfief also went on to say that he had been expecting to be sent down at some point because of his spot on the Olympic team.
Teagarden said catcher Gerald Laird is on track to return in a few days, so the club didn't feel like it was worth Teagarden missing the Olympics for three days. The plan was to send him down at some point anyway.
So, it seems as if the former Texas Longhorn was just spared the agony of getting used to nice hotels and perfectly manicured grass and cathedral-like ballparks before he got shipped off to Beijing.
Something tells me that outlook doesn't make it any less dissapointing, though.
