About NIA
Q: What is your studio like?
A: The breath works studio at the Lake Norman YMCA is beautiful. It is an airy room with floor to ceiling windows that look out over the lake. Community Yoga studio is cozy and serene. There are no mirrors and only small windows.
Q: What makes NIA different from other exercise approaches?
A: Nia is a revolutionary fitness technique that replaces the idea of punishment with pleasure.
Nia is the first and most advanced form of fusion fitness – the combining of classic movement forms. It encompasses the martial arts, healing arts, and dance. This combination creates a synergy that no isolated technique can match.
Q: Do you offer more than just NIA classes?
A: Yes. I offer individual Nia assessments, “Joy Parties”, and ‘play’-shops.
Q: What can a potential student expect during a class?
A: A student can expect to come into their breath, come into body awareness, and connect with self and the surrounding energy. Move their body in a way that increases their sensation of pleasure, increase their energy, and process their emotions. HAVE FUN!
Q: What would a potential student need to know to begin?
A: Check their judgments at the door, slip off their shoes, breathe, and move in their body’s way.
