Wind River Cancer Wellness Retreats & Programs

Living in Charlotte provides us with so many opportunities to be generous with our time and money. If you are looking for a great cause, expand your view just a little farther than the Queen City.  Shannon Carney and Dave Pschirer are the bighearted owners of Wind River Cancer Wellness Retreats & Programs. Each year they host 4-5 free retreats for individuals struggling with the emotional and physical toll that cancer brings.

Each retreat offers a warm bed, organic home-cooked meals, gentle nurturing and plenty of open space to deal with the personal questions that come with cancer. Participants are invited to experience their bodies through gentle yoga classes, meditate quietly by the babbling brook that flows through the property and regain balance by reconnecting with their own capability to heal.

“We’re not trying to fix the world – we’re just trying to help these individuals find the strength to heal from the inside,” says Shannon. As a lawyer, yoga instructor and breast cancer survivor, Shannon is full of love, respect and pure intentions when she speaks of hosting these retreats.

As a 501c3 non-profit organization, the Wind River Cancer Wellness Center is a donation-based business. This is where your dollars, time and contributions count – in a big way. Also available for executive events, small business and staff retreats, Wind River is a healing place for all. Just 90 minutes from Charlotte in the foothills of Western N.C., they can accommodate up to 10 individuals overnight with two to a room.

How you can contribute to Wind River Retreat Center (all tax deductible):

  • Host an event – whether it’s a business or personal event, Wind River offers you a way to pay it forward while you relax in nature’s playground
  • Sponsor part or all of a Cancer Wellness Retreat – sponsorship opportunities are available, please contact Shannon or Dave to discuss (including in-kind donations)
  • Time – when appropriate, Shannon and Dave will bring in volunteers who specialize in nutrition, massage, etc to gift their participants with knowledge about their diets and stress relief through healing hands.
  • Donations – time, money and supplies are all appreciated.
  • Monetary contributions – online via credit card or by check. Information at:www.WindRiverServices.com
  • Plants for the grounds – even clippings from your own yard!
  • Gently used outdoor furniture

Wind River is filled with love and a personal touch. Shannon and Dave hand milled their own wood, built decks, constructed a cabin and work hard to provide a safe space for individuals who are dealing with the most difficult time in their lives. They’re still in touch with 75% of the participants who have joined them at Wind River over the past 2 years. Some individuals have passed and others celebrate the gift of healing, but above all, they are changed by the opportunity they were given. Please consider making a donation to Wind River to continue the gift of free retreats for those struggling with cancer to re-center, re-connect and heal.
