There's a great story brewing in New York right now about a Fox News writer named Don Broderick, who got into an "altercation" the other day with a cyclist he claimed was a "vigilante."
Actually, "altercation" is the sort of euphemism that Fox is famous for when glossing over the routine hypocrisies of its mouthpieces in Washington. Inasmuch as Broderick was using his SUV for said altercating, a fair-and-balanced reporter might say that Broderick was trying to kill the cyclist.
According to gawker, here's what happened on Thursday June 4 at about 5pm, when a Brooklyn film archivist named Brian Dooda was riding his bike on East Dr. in Central Park.
"The altercation started because Dooda was riding his bike in the left-hand lane at roughly 25 m.p.h., which caused a line of ten or so cars to back up behind him. Broderick's was the last car to get around him, which is when Dooda says Broderick tried to send him a message by abruptly cutting back over into the left lane in front of him, coming close to his tire."
Here's what Dooda did in response:
"Angered, Dooda caught up with the car, which had 'NYP' license plates designating its driver as a media representative, at the next red light. He positioned himself in front of the SUV and told the driver to slow down and observe the park's 25 m.p.h. speed limit.
According to Dooda, this is what happened next:
"The driver then accelerated, lunging straight into me, knocking me and my bicycle to the ground and to the left side of his car. I quickly got to my feet and positioned myself in front of his vehicle to prevent him from fleeing the scene. I called out to bystanders to call the police and yelled at the driver that he was insane, he just hit me, and he can't leave. The driver again accelerated into me, with no intention of stopping, forcing me, prostrate, onto the drivers side hood of his vehicle."
"The guy kept driving, they drove past where we stood with our jaws wide open. The cyclist was still on the hood, pleading with the driver to stop. He rode on the hood for like 3, 4 blocks..... I think when we first saw him, he was at like 98th, 99th St., but he rode on the hood until at least 101st, 102nd St. or so. He kept shouting at the driver to stop, and the driver didn't stop or slow down at all. It was scary."
In a follow up, gawker has learned that the NYPD is investigating the Fox News employee.
