The big news on the Today Show this morning concerned its host, Matt Lauer, who was not sitting in his usual spot next to Meredith Vieira due to a cycling accident over the weekend. Apparently a deer darted into the road near his home on Long Island. Lauer did not hit the creature, but the sudden stop sent him over his handlebars and onto the pavement. Been there, done that, although I fared better than Lauer did: I landed on my feet; he's having surgery for a dislocated shoulder.
Then, just a few minutes ago, another cycling accident stopping the virtual presses. This time the victim was none other than Lance Armstrong, who has broken his collarbone in Spain. Lauer will likely be back at his job by the end of the week. For Armstrong, the injury could imperil has chances of being competitive in, let along winning, this summer's Tour de France.
