Ready for even more vacation planning help? The National Park Service (NPS) has been busy rolling out new programs and websites to make planning a summer vacation even easier. First came National Parks-The Place to be for Family Fun this Summer, then Fee-Free Weekends in Your National Parks and Celebrate Independence in America’s National Parks.

Now today, we get Experience America’s Best Idea this Summer - Great National Park Getaways.

WASHINGTON – “Mom, Dad, I’m bored!” So goes the dreaded refrain of a kid with a case of the summer squirmies. No worries – national parks can shake the squirmies.

A new web feature, www.nps.gov/getaways, launching today, will highlight one, of the almost 400 national parks, every week this summer to help families find places to run off that extra energy or just relax and enjoy some fresh air. Of course, national parks are also great places to learn and keep the brain energized over the summer too (but don’t tell the kids!).

The first park in the series is Prince William Forest Park in Triangle, Virginia. Just a stone’s throw outside of Washington, DC, this gem is full of history and hiking trails, wildlife and solitude. Visit this weekend and pay no entrance fee. The park is planning special kids crafts, tours, talks, and hikes to celebrate!

And don't forget to check back often for the latest news and travel ideas from National Parks Travel Examiner.
