Time = Money
“If I could save time in a bottle…” the Jim Croce song says. Figure out a way to do that and the winnings from the Georgia Lottery would seem like peanuts. Time is the one currency we can all agree on, recession or not. Whether you have a household income that’s off the charts, or your monthly bank statement brings you to tears, time – or the lack of it – is a motivator.
Ask Atlantans where they spend too much time, and you’ll surely hear “in traffic” as the most popular response. Maurice Morris is CEO of a company offering a luxurious solution to tedious traffic time: replace crawling along the highway for miles with a quick trip via helicopter. This “copter concierge” is the first Atlanta service offered by thelavishstore.com, a company that’s spreading the luxury vibe nationwide. Morris’s Michigan-based business entered the Atlanta market in October.
“Traffic in Atlanta is very hectic. We wanted to introduce a new source of transportation, for those on the luxury track or the average Joes who want to try something really different,” says Morris.
Economic denial?
According to Morris, it’s more often women than men who insist that special occasions call for a splurge, whether it’s a pre-wedding party, a milestone birthday, or an all-out evening designed to help a couple forget their plummeting 401Ks. Whatever the scenario, Morris’s company offers this unique celebrity-style perk: a paparazzi team at your service. You can play Brad and Angelina for an evening, with your own personal paparazzi capturing your every move as you duck in and out of Atlanta’s hotspots. $1,200 gets you six relentless photographers, up to 100 are available. They can secretly snap from a distance, or can wow the crowd with an aerial arrival. (And yes, you get to keep the photos.)
If nuptials are on your calendar and you want to do something truly different, consider a shower of rose petals dropped from the sky, delivered via helicopter. The “Rose Petal Release” packages start at $2,500, including cleanup.
Morris is unfazed by naysayers who question whether a luxury service store can survive in today’s economy. “People will always seek luxury, even in a poor economy, whether it’s a birthday celebration, wedding, prom, girl’s night out or just to flaunt your personal swag,” he says. “Some people are willing to pay for a glimpse of the glamorous life for a day."
Right now, the helicopter concierge is the only lavish option available in Atlanta, but Morris plans to introduce the other services in coming months. The Lavish Store has three new helicopters; a helipad located above The Hilton Garden Inn, Centennial Olympic Park; and a private heliport in Cumming, Georgia. Pilots can land at your home if you have a clear acre of land. So the next time you’re sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic on 400, dream of the view from a leather seat high in the sky. At $1,800 an hour, the helicopter commute is a costly carpool — but hey, it holds five passengers so that’s only $360 per person — and think about how drastically it will reduce your commute time.
Atlanta has the world’s smallest bottling plant at the World of Coca-Cola… but until that fantasy factory comes along that will produce six-packs of sixty minutes (I’ll take a case of “non-working weekends” please), make the most of your time. And add a dose of luxury whenever possible.
