Fine jewelry continues to hold its own in the global marketplace as Christie’s of London auctioned a phenomenal selection of antique jewelry today in its “Jewels: The London Sale” presentation.

Antique Sapphire and Diamond Tiara – Ca. 1850
This foliate wreath tiara, part of the Barberini Jewels, is composed of seven graduated oval-shaped sapphires and old-cut diamond flower heads applied to a rose-cut diamond branch. Mounted in silver and gold, it also features sapphire single-stone collet detail.

Art Deco Yellow Diamond and Onyx Pendant – Ca. 1925
One of the “important” pieces offered for sale today, the circular-cut yellow diamond featured in this art deco pendant weighed in at a whopping 44.14 carats. The large diamond is suspended within a calibré-cut onyx surrounding a single-cut diamond loop.

Antique Diamond Brooch – Brooch Ca. 1860 with late-18th century diamond drops
This brooch, believed to originate from the Boehmer and Baszanger necklace which Louis XV commissioned for his mistress Madame du Barry from the French Crown jewelers features a naturalistic design. The pavé-set old-cut diamond leaf canopy suspends a graduated fringe of diamond trails with six pear-shaped diamond drops mounted in silver and gold.
