Yes, it is only the preseason. Nonetheless, it was nice watching the San Jose Sharks not only shut out the Anaheim Ducks, but watching defenseman Doug Murray record a hat trick in the process.
There was no better way for the Sharks to reward their fans after too long of a summer. The Sharks played the Ducks at home, and dominated them 6-0.
True, Jonas Hiller wasn't in goal, and other key Ducks' players weren't in the game, but it's still refreshing to see the Sharks finally flat out dominate.
Doug Murray scored a goal in every period to complete his hat trick. Dany Heatley assisted on Murray's first goal.
Murray made the score 2-0 in the second period when he ripped a slap shot from just inside the blue line.
Manny Malhotra, the newly acquired center from Columbus, made it 3-0 when he scored a goal in the second period.
Ryane Clowe and Devin Setoguchi both tallied goals of their own to help the Sharks rout the Ducks.
While Sharks fans are waiting for Dany Heatley to start scoring some goals, it was nice to see some of the lesser known players net some goals.
Manny Malhotra will be a welcome addition to the Sharks. Malhotra will play his 13th season, and is currently coming off a career-high point season with the Blue Jackets. Malhotra recorded 11 goals and 24 assists with Columbus.
Ultimately, this was only a preseason game, and the Ducks will have always beaten the 2008-2009 Sharks in the playoffs. However, winning 6-0 cannot simply be dismissed, and hopefully the Sharks will be playing like this come April.
