The San Jose Sharks finished their six game road trip with games in Atlanta and Philadelphia. The Sharks also finished with two consecutive victories.
The Sharks went up 3-0 early on against the Thrashers. Joe Thornton scored his third goal of the season only 45 seconds into the game. Dany Heatley made it 2-0 with a powerplay goal midway through the first.
Dany Heatley used to play for the Thrashers until he was involved in a terrible car accident that left friend and teammate Dan Snyder dead. Heatley requested a trade that sent him to Ottawa, and eventually to the Sharks.
Patrick Marleau scored on a pass from Boyle less than a minute into the second. However Atlanta finally answered back with a goal from Todd White.
Marleau scored on the powerplay midway through the second to put the Sharks up 4-1. Atlanta scored twice more to get within one of the Sharks, but never made the comeback complete.
Unfortunately, Devin Setoguchi left the game early with an unknown injury, and is considered day-to-day.
Sharks' fans expected Coach McLellan to play back-up goalie Thomas Greiss sometime during the road trip. They expected Greiss to play against the winless Islanders or the lowly Thrashers, but Greiss made his first start against the feisty Philadelphia Flyers.
Greiss didn't disappoint. The Sharks won 4-1, and Thomas Greiss made several huge saves that kept the Sharks alive.
Dany Heatley scored his eighth of the season with a powerplay goal early in the first. Joe Thornton recorded his league-leading 14th assist on Heatley goal.
Darrel Powe scored for the Flyers in the first, but Philadelphia would be kept off the scoreboard for the rest of the game.
The second period belonged to Manny Malhotra. Malhotra finally scored for the Sharks, and then did it again. Manny scored his first on a backhand, and then sniped one from the circle less than three minutes later.
Jed Ortmeyer added another goal for the Sharks in the third to end the game 4-1.
The Flyers' netminder was Brian Boucher, the back-up goalie for the Sharks last season.
The Sharks will finally play at home on Wednesday versus the Los Angeles Kings.
