
The San Jose Sharks went to New York following their 4-1 loss to the Washington Capitals. They left New York with two wins under their belt, defeating both the win-less New York Islanders and the streaking New York Rangers.
The Islanders' Matt Moulson opened up the scoring on the powerplay in the first period to lead the Sharks 1-0. The Sharks then scored four unanswered goals to win 4-1.
Patrick Marleau scored a powerplay goal halfway through the second on a pass from Joe Thornton. Ryan Vesce scored his first NHL goal less than ten minutes later when Joe Thornton won the puck and centered it to Vesce.
Jumbo Joe was rewarded with his second goal of the season when he received a pass from Boyle during a powerplay and slapped the puck from above the blue line.
Evgeni Nabokov played beautifully, stopping 31 of 32 shots on net.
Devin Setoguchi put the Sharks up 4-1 with a pass from Ryane Clowe and a wrist shot into the back of the net.
The Sharks played the red-hot Rangers two days later. The streaking Rangers had won seven games in a row before facing the Sharks. The Sharks routed the Rangers 7-3.
New York once again opened up the scoring against the Sharks. Chris Drury scored on a tip-in, and Michael Del Zotto scored on the powerplay to put the Rangers up 2-0 in the first.
It seemed like the Rangers were going to continue their winning streak until Brad Staubitz scored his first goal of the season in the first period. From then on, the Sharks would score six more consecutive goals.
Dany Heatley scored his sixth goal of the season during the powerplay on a backhand from rookie defenseman Jason Demers.
Jed Ortmeyer scored in the first two minutes of the second period to give the Sharks the 3-2 lead.
Devin Setoguchi scored twice in the second period, bringing his team-leading goal total to seven.
Ryan Vesce opened up the third period with a tip-in from Heatley. Vesce got the puck past Henrik Lundqvist, who filled in for Stephen Valiquette after Valiquette let five goals in on 18 shots.
Enver Lisin scored the third goal for the Rangers in the third period.
Patrick Marleau tied Setoguchi's goal total with a give-and-go from Jason Demers in the last two minutes of the third period.
The Rangers had not given up more than three goals a game this season before facing the Sharks.
The Sharks play the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday, and will play three more away games before heading home.
