Marathoners passing under the BP Bridge on Columbus/Millennium Park a few minutes from the start.

 It was difficult photographing last Sunday's Chicago Marathon because it was freezing.  It was good for the runners, totally opposite from the temperature debacle of 2007 - the run was fast and the eventual winner for the men finished it in record time (Samuel Wanjiru beating Khalid Khannouchi's 10-year-old record by one second with a time of 2 hours, 5 minutes, 41 seconds).  But for spectators and photographers ... it was brutal.  I can hardly press the shutter of my camera because my fingers were numb.

Here are more shots from the marathon:

The elite women group on the Orleans St. Bridge about 1:10 into the race.  The leader in this group, the woman in pink, Liliya Shobukhova of Russia was the eventual winner.

Double amputee marathon runner Richard Whitehead set a new world record time for a leg amputee at the 2009 Chicago Marathon (11 October 2009) with a time of 2 hours, 50 minutes and 38 seconds.

45,000 plus strong.  The 4:00hr group on Franklin and Wacker;

Finishing just under three hours ... sweet!
