Smart Marketing...Smart Branding

This week’s announcement brings much joy to this writer! Once introduced to IKEA in San Diego, CA, no other store has been able to live up to the promise, quality, selection, and value pricing as IKEA.

Knowing the market: After an earlier attempt to open a store in the Denver Metro area failed, IKEA planners were smart enough to track the buying trends of their customers and knew that a store in Colorado made sense. IKEA customers are devoted to the brand and loyal ‘til the day is long. I have to confess that I am one of the most devoted customers of all.

My husband and I recently designed, planned, and built a house in Grand County, CO. Already having been introduced to the quality of IKEA’s products, their innovative designs, and forward-thinking styles, we knew that we had to incorporate as much IKEA product as possible. The problem we and so many other devoted IKEA fans have: the long drive to see products in person and talk to the consultants. Knowing we were determined to have an IKEA kitchen and bathroom cabinetry for the new house, we took multiple trips to different IKEA stores to shop. My husband and I drove to Minneapolis, MN to view the LINJAR Blue kitchen cabinets to see them in person. A year later as the time to order the cabinets neared, we drove to San Diego, CA to view the cabinets again because, well, I was still a little unsure as to the color and being a visual person, needed to see them again. Then, on my birthday, the IKEA opened in Draper, UT!

The drive to IKEA Draper is just about 8 hours and much easier to get to, shop, and back all in a weekend. So, we went there and had them proof our kitchen cabinet design for errors and then proceed with the proper ordering of the required pieces. Since all the pieces are flat packed, we spent a few hours browsing the store while the consultant reviewed the design and prepared the massive order. While we were there, two other couples came in to place their kitchen orders. We all began talking and found out we were all from Colorado. That weekend, IKEA Draper sold 3 complete kitchens…all from Colorado residents. We all lamented how we wished that IKEA would come to Denver. Now, our wishes have come true!

In addition to their innovative designs and value pricing, IKEA has a favorable return policy. Keep your receipt and if the 90 day cash-back period is over, they’ll offer you a store credit. When there’s so much to love and buy at IKEA, that’s a store credit you’ll use before you leave the store.

Since its 1943 founding in Sweden, IKEA has offered a wide range of home furnishings of good design and function, at low prices so the majority of the people can afford them. IKEA has been ranked in FORTUNE's annual "100 Best Companies to Work For" List (two years in a row), Working Mother magazine's annual list of "100 Best Companies for Working Mothers" (four years in a row) and Training magazine's annual "Top 100" ranking of companies that excel at human capital development (four years in a row). IKEA incorporates environmentally and socially responsible efforts into day-to-day business, and continually supports initiatives that benefit causes such as children and the environment.
