Are you looking forward to getting closer to your goal weight? Who isn't, right? Once you are able to move in to lifetime maintenance, so many more options will be come available to you for not only meals, but snacks as well. Through a friend on facebook, I recently discovered LARABAR brand energy bar; "a delicious blend of unsweetened fruits, nuts and spices - energy in its purest form."
Their website is full of great information about the bars, but their main focus is on whole food ingredients and the bar's lack of additives or preservatives. These bars contain fewer than 8 ingredients which are all noted right on the label. A few items you won't see on the label are sugar, HFCS, wheat, soy, or any kind of processed items. They are gluten free, dairy free, soy free, non-GMO, vegan and certified Kosher. The ingredients are basically nuts and fruit with some seasonings like cinnamon added for additional flavor. Made from raw and uncooked ingredients, the LARABAR is a good snack that could even be used as a meal replacement if necessary. They contain about 5g protein so be sure you are getting the rest of your daily protein in your other meals.
The 16 LARABAR flavors are: Apple Pie, Banana Cookie, Cashew Cookie, Cherry Pie, Chocolate Coconut Chew, Cinnamon Roll, Cocoa Mole, Coconut Cream Pie, Ginger Snap, Key Lime Pie, Lemon Bar, Peanut Butter Cookie, Peanut Butter & Jelly, Pecan Pie, Pistachio, and Tropical Fruit Tart. Each of these have varying ratios of each nut and fruit ingredient but all end up around the 20 net carb count for an entire bar. All of the sweetness comes from fruits like dates, raisins, and apples, NO ADDED SUGAR. While 20 carbs seems like a lot while on induction, these can find a place in your diet when you reach maintenance and since they are made with whole food ingredients like fruits and nuts, they are great for your health. You could divide the bar into smaller pieces and individually wrap them for multiple small snack to be eaten throughout the week.
These were originally created in the company's founder's kitchen so it only makes sense that you could also make these at home in your own kitchen with some success. Look for a future article about making them at home.
