Pool season may be in full swing here in Las Vegas, but if you don’t have the swimsuit bod you had hoped for yet, don’t distress: technically, the first day of summer is still several weeks away. But while (in theory) it’s easy to cut back on your calorie intake and hit the gym these next few weeks to help get your body back in swimsuit shape, what’s a girl (or guy) to do about those unsightly cellulite areas?
Introducing Ritual Salon & Spa’s Body Firming Treatment. The 45-minute unisex service ($95) is actually so new it’s not even on Ritual’s menu yet, so consider this some “insider” information. The treatment targets any cellulite and stretch marks on your buttocks and the back of your legs, as well as any loose, sagging skin and dull, uneven texture to help smooth, tighten and tone your legs and butt. You’re guaranteed to see results after just one treatment, and those who keep up with the treatment will be practically cellulite-free within weeks!
In order to start the treatment, guests are asked to disrobe in Ritual’s private locker room area and put on one of Ritual’s cloth wraps, with convenient snaps to help keep it in place. Then, you’ll follow your spa technician into the spa where you’ll be asked to lie face-up on one of Ritual’s heated treatment tables. Once you’re comfortable and all unmentionable areas are covered with a sheet, you’ll be asked to turn onto your left side so a gentle brush exfoliation can be performed on the back of your right leg and buttocks (basically, the area above your kneecap to right below your waist). Once your skin has been exfoliated, some of Murad’s Activating Body Scrub is massaged into your skin to help increase elasticity and suppleness, as well as refine skin texture. Unlike most other scrubs, Murad’s Activating Body Scrub isn’t very abrasive--its texture is more like a mud wrap--and, surprisingly, it’s fairly gentile on your skin despite having cayenne pepper in it to stimulate circulation and energize the skin.
Once your right leg and buttocks have been scrubbed down, you’ll flip over onto your right side so the process can be repeated on your left leg and buttocks. Then, you’ll turn back over so the spa technician can wipe off the scrub with a towel and begin applying Murad’s Activating Firming Treatment. Although the treatment is so powerful it actually burns the spa technician to touch it, your legs and buttocks are so desensitized, it surprisingly doesn’t sting at all--in fact, it just feels warm when applied. The treatment works so fast, though, that the spa technician can actually see your skin firming up as she (or he) massages it into your skin. Even though it works fast, the treatment needs to stay on the area for 10 minutes, so while you wait, you’ll flip back over again so the process can be repeated on your other side.
After 10 minutes have passed, it’s time for the final step of Ritual’s Body Firming Treatment: Murad’s Firm and Tone Serum. The cooling serum actually helps improve the overall appearance of your skin by 80% by increasing skin firmness and elasticity, and helps reduce the appearance of cellulite by up to 69%. It’s a bit sticky, though, so after it’s massaged into your skin and you get off the table, you’ll notice the sheets will want to come with you. The stickiness is even more noticeable after you get dressed, as your pants and underwear will lightly stick to your body, but it’s nothing too uncomfortable, and you’ll want to make sure not to apply any lotions to the area, as it may irritate your skin.
While results will be noticeable right away (you‘ll be checking out your backside in the mirror all day long!), for those looking for quick and long-lasting results, it is recommended to get a series of six Body Firming Treatments over a 12-week period. If that’s not in your budget, Ritual actually sells some take-home products from Murad (Firm and Tone Serum, $77; Firm and Tone Dietary Supplement Pack, $137.50; Body Firming Cream, $43) to help keep your skin firm and tone from the comfort of your own home. Just remember: simply applying any of the products to the treated area isn’t enough--you really need to massage it into your skin to help break up the cellulite--so it’s recommended you have someone else do the treatment for you for best results.
