Post Father’s Day events encourage men, fellowship and spiritual growth in different ways
Another Father’s Day is “in the books”. Dads received cards and hugs, and maybe a few bad ties. This annual holiday is a good thing because fatherhood is really important to healthy families. Young men can learn the importance of being good fathers from those who pave the way before them; the fathers and grandfathers who share their experience and faith.
Men are notorious for often not showing emotion or going below the surface of their feelings. Nevertheless, there is a spiritual hunger among men (just as there is among women) and there are ways to feed that appetite for real purpose and meaning. Sure, guys are going to be passionate about sports, grilling and macho activities. But men are more than that stereotype.
This coming weekend there are two men-oriented events that can encourage fellowship and spiritual growth. They are distinct, but each holds potential to open men up to ever-present need for God to infiltrate their lives.
The first is the
2009 Men’s Rally presented by the
Challenge Men’s Ministry of Calvary Church of Albuquerque. This free event is on Friday, June 26 from 6 PM – 9 PM at the Calvary Church Amphitheater (4001 Osuna NE, Albuquerque, NM). Speakers will include Pastor Skip Heitzig and Lt. General Jerry Boykin, along with special musical guest Darrell Mansfield (rockin’ blues-power with a decidedly Jesus flavor) and worship performed by Pastor Nick Crespo.
This event includes honoring members of our military and they are encouraging bringing needed items that the
Blue Star Mothers regularly send out to our deployed troops.
The other event is a Saturday morning live webcast teaching from the
Center for Action and Contemplation with noted Franciscan speaker and author Richard Rohr.
Men, Nature and the Soul will include discussion of creation-based spirituality from some new and helpful angles.
Romans 1:20 declares that God’s qualities are revealed in creation. There is a nominal suggested donation to view the webcast and the event will also include a question and answer session.
Perhaps one, or both, of these events will prove beneficial to you. There is a great need for men who are willing to explore and mature in their faith. The price society pays for “absentee fatherhood” is too high to ignore.
