Most of us go through our busy days with a full plate of activities. There’s much to get done and it is likely you are using a list to write down all you need to do.
But when it comes to remembering things perhaps the most important are those little reminders that are so essential to a fit spiritual condition.
Renowned author and minister Max Lucado, in the June 10 entry of his wonderful daily meditation book
Grace for the Moment (available from
Amazon.com ), calls them “Short Cuts”.
Here’s a sampling:
.
- Pray all the time. If necessary, use words.
- Greed I’ve often regretted. Generosity – never.
- Don’t ask God to do what you want. Ask God to do what is right.
Those little reminders can catch you up when you are in a “bad space”. I have found a few others to be helpful.
- Pause when agitated or doubtful and ask God for the right thought or action.
- How important is it…really?
- This too shall pass.
- Keep it real.
- Have an attitude of gratitude.
- Be still, and know that I am God. (Psalm 46:10)
- Smile.
I know these are not earthshaking revelations, but let’s face it; these little reminders can be helpful. It is so easy to forget what’s really important and I find such “short cuts” as those above can help me regain perspective in the middle of anger, doubt, confusion or despair.
There are many more little reminders. Find the ones that work for you and maybe write a few down on a small card to keep with you. It’s a great way to give you a “check up from the neck up”.
