Upon entering the modern chic space just off Broadway and 1st, my hopes were high for the newly-opened wine bar, Sketch (303.484.9305). The new addition to the Baker neighborhood features high ceilings, two-seater leather bar stools, and a small outdoor patio.
Open from 4pm to 2am, seven days of week, Sketch offers a late happy hour from 11pm to close. Guests can enjoy $5 glasses of sangria, $2 glasses of boxed wine, and $2 ham and cheese sandwiches. The wine list also features an array of reasonably-priced wines starting at $22 a bottle.
Unfortunately, the service and quality did not live up to my expectations. The bar lacks many non-alcoholic drinks including basics such as soda and juice. Our designated driver had few options other than club soda. While the cheese and cured meat menu looks appetizing, the servings are extremely small and over priced. Lastly, the music was continuously played either too quiet or too loud. We were informed that the noise level was the result of a faulty iPod playlist and there was nothing that could be done to fix it.
Overall, the place has a great deal of potential. I am going to chalk up my poor experience to the restaurant's inexperience and may even venture back if in the neighborhood.
