While walking to work a few weeks ago, I noticed that the infamous Z Cuisine (one block east of Zuni and 30th Ave) offers happy hour from 5 to 7pm. Having always wanted to dine at the upscale, French restaurant, I decided happy hour would be the perfect way to get a taste of the offerings.

Later that week, I took a friend to the adorable, little Parisian Bistrot to celebrate her birthday. We enjoyed the $5 happy hour wine special and chose two appetizers to split. The first, a four cheese plate, was quite tasty and garnished with dried cranberries, nuts and olives. The second, an artisan bread layered with local ham, bechamel and a fried egg, was a bit heavy for my tastes. However, the ingredients were fresh, and it was quite apparent that the cuisine was freshly harvested from a Colorado organic farm.

The service was excellent and the 1900s Parisian wine bar ambiance was like nothing else I've experienced in Denver. Our celebration lasted much past happy hour, and at the end of the evening as we closed out the tab and I realized the cost of our European adventure, I was saddened to realize that staying past happy hour would not become a regular tradition. I'll certainly be returning for the $5 wine specials, but it will take a very special occasion for me to stay past 7pm and enjoy the full-priced menu.
